Texture Menu: materials for shapes
The item menu calls this panel Texture. It controls the surface of a resizable shape: a cube, sphere, capsule, cone, cylinder, hexagon, pyramid, ring, prism, or ramp. Select the shape and choose Texture.
This is not a general material editor. Standard imported GLBs keep the materials authored in their GLB file, so they do not use this menu. See GLB Settings for the controls available on an imported model.
What the controls do
| Control | What it changes | Good first use |
|---|---|---|
| Color | The shape's base color, or a tint when a texture is used. | Choose a high-contrast color for a platform or sign. |
| Apply color to image | Appears after a texture is selected. Turn it off to preserve the image's original colors. | Leave it off when the texture already has the colors you want. |
| Transparency | How see-through the surface is: 0 is opaque and 100 is fully transparent. |
Start low for glass-like accents; test whether the object remains easy to see. |
| Emission | How strongly the shape appears to glow. | Use a small amount for a goal marker or illuminated trim. |
| Smoothness | How polished or blurred the surface reflections look. | Raise it for polished metal or glass; lower it for a rough prop. |
| Metallic | How metal-like the surface looks. | Start at zero for wood, paint, or stone. |
| Texture Tiling | How often a texture repeats across the shape. 1 is the normal repeat; the control accepts 0.01 through 10. |
Increase it when a texture looks stretched across a large floor. |
Choose a texture source
The lower part of the Texture menu offers three ways to choose the image used on the selected shape:
- Your Textures appears when image or texture items are available in your item inventory. Choose a tile to apply that item's image.
- Image Textures shows the image-texture tiles included in the menu. Choose one to apply it, and choose it again to remove that selection.
- Upload lets you drag in a file or browse for one. It accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images up to 100 MB. When the upload finishes, its image is selected for the shape.
These sources apply to the selected resizable shape only. They do not edit the authored materials of a standard imported GLB.
A simple platform material
- Place a resizable cube and scale it into a small platform.
- Open Texture and choose a readable Color first.
- Choose an image from Your Textures, Image Textures, or Upload, then use Texture Tiling to make its pattern look believable at player scale.
- Keep Transparency at zero for a floor or platform.
- Use a small amount of Emission only if the platform must stand out in a dark scene.
- Close the panel, then walk on the item as a player.
Material choices that stay readable
- Change one control at a time. A bright color, strong emission, high smoothness, and high metallic value together are difficult to judge.
- A transparent shape can still need Collider on when it should stop a player.
- Test the material in the room's actual Scene settings, especially if the room has a night state or bloom.
Important: The texture controls are saved when you finish with the panel. Close it before switching items, then reselect the shape to confirm the final surface is the one you intended.
