Shotgun

The Shotgun is a gun pickup for close encounters. Its spread and damage falloff are especially important, so test it in the tight room or arena where you expect players to use it.

Set up a close-range pickup

  1. Choose Shotgun from Tools > Guns and place it near the encounter.
  2. Test its damage against a target at close, medium, and long range.
  3. Adjust Projectiles Per Shot and Dispersion together to set the spread.
  4. Set fire rate, clip size, and reload time to create the desired pacing.
  5. Test player movement, cover, and collection behavior as a full encounter.

Why range testing matters

Damage can have a close-range value, a falloff section, a longer-distance value, and a maximum range. A Shotgun is easiest to balance when you test these distances in the real geometry of your room instead of on an empty flat surface.

Other settings

You can also configure infinite or finite ammo, automatic or one-by-one reloads, camera stability and recoil, visual feedback, pickup collection, sound range, and the gun's appearance. Start with the default values for these groups until the close-range damage and spread feel right.

Test checklist

  • Does the Shotgun feel strongest at the intended distance?
  • Is its spread understandable without being random at close range?
  • Do reload timing and ammo supply leave room for player decisions?
  • Does the pickup work correctly for one player and for a shared session?
