Build no-code gameplay with tasks, triggers, effects, values, and player feedback.

Start Speaking

What it does

Starts the visual speaking state on a compatible NPC with supported face animation. It can make a character look as though it is talking, but it does not create audio, text, or dialogue by itself.

Use it alongside your own sound, iframe, or task sequence when a character should appear to speak.

Required item compatibility

Select an NPC whose Tasks panel offers Start Speaking and whose avatar supports the face-animation behavior. Imported or custom NPCs without that support may not visibly respond.

Setup

  1. Select the NPC that should appear to speak.
  2. Add Start Speaking to the state where the speaking moment begins.
  3. Add Stop Speaking where the moment should end.
  4. Test the full sequence on the final NPC asset.

Settings

There are no settings for this effect.

Tiny example

A guide task reaches Active, starts the guide's visual speaking state, and opens a companion iframe with the written instructions. The next state stops the visual speaking state.

Test and troubleshoot

  • If nothing changes, test with an NPC that has supported face animation.
  • This effect is visual only. Add your own audio or text separately.
  • Always add a deliberate stop path so the NPC does not keep the speaking appearance longer than intended.
